Where to next?
What excites you everyday? What makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Believe it or not, these are important questions to think about when planning your next holiday. Now, I’m sure you are thinking “I’m not rich enough to choose any destination” well my friend, you most definitely are!
You need to remember, money is a small factor in travel. There are so many countries with different dreams to offer. You don’t need to stick to the mainstream holiday destination because everyone else says it’s cheap. Your neighbour likes olives, maybe you don’t. Branch out, think about what you like. I think a very important question when choosing your destination,
What do you want to get out of your holiday?
Adventure clothes good food inspiration for a new activity culture relaxation A nice Suntan Some compassion A new love
“How long do you have?”
Not everyone works for themselves and can travel any time for as long as they like, we need to be realistic here.
If you only have 5 days don’t be daft and take a 23-hour flight to your holiday destination and then be jet-lagged for 2 days and have 1 normal day before having to fly back home.

Local is so much more exciting than you can imagine, I live in Cape Town, South Africa. If we drive 2 hours from our house, we experience totally different scenery and culture. I know so many people who have never left the city they live in.
Besides the travel time, you also need to consider how much you want to see. Not everything is a 5 – 10-minute drive away from each other. Some attractions are completely out of the city and it’s better to have a night or two there. You don’t want to go on holiday and rush it to a point where you missed out. You can always go back – but why, been there done that, got the t-shirt!
What about somewhere new? Don’t forget to give yourself time.
If you know you need 2 hours to straighten your hair, then factor that into your holiday… And don’t go somewhere you would likely spend more time on your hair than taking photos!
The dreaded A word… Admin! It’s so much nicer to travel when you don’t need a visa. Pull up a list of countries that you don’t need a visa for. Mark off what’s closest to you and what interests you the most? – Done! A list already made for you.
Did you know there’s a beautiful country called Georgia? – well worth seeing!
Money’s too tight to mention.
Research more than just the cost of the flight. The flight may be bigger than what you were prepared to pay for however the food, accommodation and transport is way cheaper than you expected, there it balances out to an affordable holiday! Not everyone is adventurous but hostels do have private rooms that can be the same quality as a hotel but for a third of the price – and a great atmosphere!
Travelling is so much more than posting pictures on Instagram. It’s about supporting local communities by promoting an amazing service or product. It’s about feeding empty bellies. It’s about learning and evolving as a person. Becoming aware of what you have an impact on. I strongly believe that travel makes you a better person, now choose a destination and make a change!
